Avengers: Infinity War (2018) had shown many of our favourite heroes drift away to dust, which we were not ready to see. A lot more people than we expected left us and whether that is for good or not, we don’t know for sure. While they were all very sad to watch, there were six that stood out to be the saddest. Here are the 6 saddest deaths in Infinity War from least to most.

Bucky (Winter Soldier/White Wolf)

Avengers: Infinity War

We have seen the rough history of Bucky in all 3 Captain America movies. His character has developed very well over the years and we all have an attachment to Bucky. We also got to see the close relationship he has with Steve Rogers (Captain America). They have been best friends since their childhood. Steve never gave up on Bucky no matter how hard it got, and they showed us what true friendship means. And that is one of the biggest reasons as to why Bucky’s death was one of the saddest.

Bucky was the first one to disappear to dust after Thanos snapped his fingers, and his last word to his best friend was “Steve?”. He knew that if he was in trouble or confused he could always count on Steve to help him. But of course, there was nothing Steve could do at that point.

2. Groot

Avengers: Infinity War

For Groot you might think, “Groot already died once". Well because Groot had to die a second time is the reason why it is so sad.

In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.1 Groot sacrificed himself for his friends which caused him to perish. Then in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 Groot was able to grow back with the help of his close friend Rocket Raccoon and was an adorable baby in the movie. Now in Infinity War, Groot has grown into a teenager with a bit of an attitude but we still love him just the same.

Rocket Raccoon and Groot had a very special relationship. They have been long time partners in crime and in hero work. Groot was the only one Rocket had in his life before they became a part of the Guardians of the Galaxy. So the sad part of Groot’s death was his last word to Rocket who is a father figure to him, which was “I am Groot”, is translated to “Dad”.

3. Vision

Avengers: Infinity War

We haven’t known Vision for too long, but we got to know him enough so that we were heartbroken at the time of his death. We all knew that the fact that Vision had the mind stone in his forehead (which powered his circuit system) that someone would come for it and would eventually lead to his "death". But the way that it all went down was just too much.

We have seen little hints of love between Vision and Wanda Maximoff in Avengers: Age of Ultron and Captain America: Civil War, and in Infinity War we finally see them together and in love. During the fight with Thanos and the Black Order they have tried to protect each other as much as they could. They needed to get rid of the mind stone from Vision and still be able to keep Vision alive. With Shuri’s help it was possible, but sadly, what they needed was more time.

Wanda had to make the hardest decision in her life, and that was to destroy the mind stone and Vision with it so that Thanos couldn’t have all 6 infinity stones. That scene was the most difficult thing to watch.

Vision’s last words to Wanda was “I love you”. And when they thought it was over, Thanos was able to turn back time using the time stone to before Vision died in order to rip the mind stone right out of Vision’s forehead. So Vision died twice in a row.

4. Loki

Avengers: Infinity War

There wasn’t one person in the theatre that wasn’t instantly mad that Loki died right in the beginning of the movie. Even though Loki always went from bad to good, back and forth, we never gave up on our love for him. Deep down we knew he would one day do the right thing.

There are so many theories going around for how Loki could possibly still be alive. After all, he had faked his death twice already and made it all look pretty real. But this time it seemed just a little more real, and maybe we are just not ready to accept that he could actually be dead for good now.

Loki has been the favourite of many. Who would have thought that an MCU “villain” would be such a loved character. His death was so painful to watch since Thanos himself was the one to cause his death. Loki’s last words to Thanos were “You will never be a god”. Loki has been with us for so long that we even feel the pain that Thor must have felt at that moment, and even he thinks Loki’s death might be real this time.

5. Gamora

Avengers: Infinity War

We're getting close to when the tears start to come now. Being such a fearless and strong woman, we would think that Gamora would have survived any trouble that came her way. Gamora has changed so much through just 3 movies. She went from an assassin working for Thanos to a kind hearted, free spirited person protecting innocent people from Thanos.

We also see her develop a relationship with Star Lord (Peter Quill), and we all know that once love is involved there is going to be twice the heartbreak if something bad was going to happen. The situation Gamora was in with Thanos was such a tear jerker. In order for Thanos to get the soul stone he would have to sacrifice something/someone he loves. Gamora was his favourite daughter and he loved her like his own. The way that she had to die was just not fair. It was so shocking to see how her end came about and there have definitely been tears in the theatre. Gamora’s last words to Thanos were “No, this isn’t love”.

6. Spider-Man

Avengers: Infinity War

Now I’m sure we can all agree that Spider-Man’s death was the worst of them all. The fact that Tom Holland improvised this scene made it even more heart throbbing. We have seen Spider-Man and Iron Man develop a cute and funny relationship in Captain America: Civil War and in Spider-Man: Homecoming. For them it was almost like a father and son relationship.

Peter really wanted to prove to Tony that he was strong like him and can do anything he can do. He wanted so badly to make Tony proud. Tony also really cared for Peter and wanted to make sure he is always kept safe from harm. Peter being only 15 years old made this even more horrifying. He was the youngest Avenger and it was also his first day on the job!

Tony didn’t want Peter to be on that spaceship that was leaving Earth because he knew it would be really dangerous, but he also knew that he was going to need all the help he can get. So you can imagine that when Peter was dying, Tony must have felt so regretful. Because of Spider-Man’s spider sense he was able to feel his end coming ahead of time, and that’s why his death scene was the longest and most emotional. Peter’s last words to Tony were “I’m sorry”.

Here is a video that could possibly cheer you up, or it might do the opposite. Either way, enjoy!
